The building blocks to a better future

IT in Red Spark Learning

"I can't recommend Red Spark Learning enough!

I was looking for a course to improve my IT skills and, after making enquiries with several other colleges, it became apparent that Red Spark offered the highest quality course, in terms of content. I have to say, they didn't disappoint!

I enrolled on the ITQ L1 (a free, Government funded course) as a very daunted/apprehensive, mature student. The course tutor, Sue, immediately put us all at ease. She is a lovely lady, (as are the rest of the team) and she has a huge amount of knowledge and patience! She encouraged me to persevere when I found the course really challenging and she delivered it in such a way that made the initially impossible, seem possible!

I enjoyed the course that much that I decided to enrol on the Level 2 in digital skills and I'm really looking forward to it!"   ~   Sarah

Computer Courses

If you don't feel confident using a computer or just need qualifications to improve your prospects you have come to the right place. We have courses for beginners (how do I turn it on?) up to Level 2 accredited courses.
Our computer courses are free to anyone who has not already obtained a level 1 in IT, was over 19 years of age on the 31st August 2020 and lives in Herefordshire. If you already have a level 1 in IT and want to study a Level 2 qualification it is still free if you are unemployed or on a low salary.
Currently due to the Covid 19 pandemic we are delivering all our courses online through our virtual learning platform Moodle, Microsoft teams and google. If you would like to improve your IT but do not have the technology to access our Moodle site or have accessibility issues, please contact us and we will work on finding a solution.

IT Qualifications

Our Accredited IT lessons run for five hours per lesson and are on Wednesday and Fridays. Our qualifications start at L1 and go up to a L2 (GCSE standard). We assess our students to ensure they study at the appropriate level and the average for obtaining a qualification is 90 to 100 hours.
During the course, students complete tasks which combine to build up a portfolio, this portfolio is then entered for the qualification so there is no exam to sit.

An Introduction to IT

Our 'Introduction to IT' course is held once a week on a Tuesday for 5 hours and runs for 6 weeks. The next course starts on the 1st February 2021.
The course is designed to give you the confidence to use a computer and use it safely. We know Rome wasn't built in a day so after this course you will be invited to progress on to further courses to continue to improve your skills.
Please contact us if you are concerned about any technology issues.

How it works normally:

In the pre pandemic days we would hold classes in Hereford and Leominster and students would come every week to build up their skills. When they were ready, they would sit an exam and then, if they wanted to, progress to the next level. We are looking forward to returning to classroom delivery and meeting you all, however, our primary concern is keeping all our students safe.

How it works now:

Now students log on at their appointed lesson time every week and see, listen and talk with the tutor on our learning platform. The tutor will teach you the skills you need and set you tasks on the learning platform. (You can also talk with the other students). Your completed tasks are marked and if you don't succeed the first time, you can try again.
